Primarily, my job is to work with you to help you live life on your terms.
There are hundreds of ways your disease could be effecting you.
Maybe you’re unable to regulate your mood, finding yourself irritable, depressed and apathetic about the things that used to bring you the greatest joy.
Getting your condition under control could mean keeping your rheumatoid arthritis from destroying your fingers and ruining your career as a musician, photographer or software designer.
For others, it means solving the coagulation issues caused by your Lupus or APS, resulting in multiple miscarriages and getting in the way of your dreams of creating a family.
Perhaps calming the chronic pain and stiffness that is keeping you from maintaining your independence.
Or maybe you just prefer as little reliance on medication as possible.
I’m a naturopathic physician whose focus is rheumatologic disease. Naturopathic physicians prioritize manipulation of environmental factors in addressing your disease process, while judiciously using drug therapy.
Translation: More natural therapy, less methotrexate, less plaquenil, less biologics and so on.
That being said, my practice style is integrative, blending the best of both worlds, working alongside rheumatology specialists and the standard of care.
Regardless of where you are on your health journey and whatever your goal is, my job is to work with you to get you there.
Lab tests and treatments
Most patients I consult already carry a diagnosis of a rheumatologic or autoimmune disease. If they do not or I do not agree with another clinician’s conclusions, I work the patient up using guidelines established by the American College of Rheumatology. This means visiting the patients history, considering physical exam findings, blood counts, blood chemistries, disease activity markers and specificity markers (antibodies).
In seeking the cause of your illness, I use other tools from typical and specialty laboratories.
This means speaking and understanding the languages of clinical nutrition, allergy/immunology, infectious disease, environmental medicine, and endocrinology.
